PROJECT DETAILS

Crossbordering care for care (CARE) 2023-1-NL01-KA210-ADU-000151466

This Erasmus+ KA-210 ADU project is focused on enhancing cultural sensitivity in healthcare, with a particular emphasis on facilitating the integration of healthcare workers from Turkey in the Netherlands and improving the care for Dutch patients seeking treatment in Turkey.

Problem: A key issue is the upcoming shortage of healthcare workers especially those able to work with the growing number of people with a migration background in the Netherlands. Concurrently, there's a growing trend of Dutch patients seeking medical treatment in Turkey. However, Turkish healthcare workers' lack of experience in treating foreign patients, including the Dutch, poses a barrier to providing quality care.

Objective: The project's primary goal is to develop a blueprint for an educational pathway for healthcare professionals. This pathway aims to bridge cultural gaps and enhance the skills of healthcare workers, ensuring they can provide culturally sensitive care to patients from diverse backgrounds.

Results: The anticipated outcomes include a report on culture-sensitive care aspects, a group of 10 health and care workers who will complete the experimental pathway and acquire new insights, qualifications, and skills, and the blueprint for an educational pathway for healthcare workers catering to clients from different member states.

Activities: The project includes training sessions conducted by Imean Academy and Okyanus Atasehir Yasli Bakim for health and care workers from both the Netherlands and Turkey. These workshops will compare and contrast practices in each country, with observations informing the development of the educational pathway blueprint. This pathway is intended to be independent of the training sessions themselves.

  1. First Training Session - Understanding the Context: This session, led by Imean Academy, Activa International Foundation, and Okyanus Atasehir Yasli Bakim, focuses on introducing participants to the policy landscape around culture-sensitive care, both nationally and internationally. This foundational training will provide a broad perspective on the various aspects of culture-sensitive care, setting the stage for more detailed learning and application in subsequent sessions.

  2. Second Training Session - Tools and Methodologies for Training Healthcare Professionals: In this session, Imean Academy and Okyanus Atasehir Yasli Bakim will guide participants through the development of effective training programs tailored for healthcare professionals in culture-sensitive care. It will include role-playing exercises to enhance communication skills and cultural competency, as well as case-based learning to develop critical thinking skills in addressing cultural and linguistic barriers in healthcare. This session aims to equip participants with practical tools and methodologies that can be applied in their professional settings.

  3. Third Training Session - Organizational Development and Change Management: The third session will delve into understanding the organizational factors that impact the implementation of culture-sensitive care. This session will be critical in understanding the broader organizational and systemic changes required to integrate culture-sensitive practices in healthcare settings effectively. The focus will be on the practical aspects of implementing these changes within healthcare organizations.
